Japanese judoka Goki Maruyama won the World Junior Championships U20 in 2011 in Cape Town. He won the European Open in Rome in 2015 and took bronze at the Grand Slam in Baku. He was in the final of the Grand Prix Qingdao in 2015. In September 2016 he won the Taipei Open.

Japan and Korea divided the medals at the second day of the Taipei Open. Japan won four categories, Korea three. Strong men Goki Maruyama won the category U81kg in an all Japanese final against Yuki Haruyama. Three years after his All japan titel Maruyama takes gold again. Read more

Wang Ki-Chun back with victory U81kg

The Grand Prix of Qingdao for men U81kg was captured by Wang Ki-Chun. Ki-Chun Wang was Olympic finallist for Korea in 2008 against Elnur Mammadli (AZE). Wang was World Champion in 2007 in Rio. With his famous Korean techniques he won the Grand Slam of Paris in 2009 and 2010. In 2015 he came back won the European Open in Warsaw. In QIngdao re regained the title that he won in 2011, then still U73kg. Read more

The second day of the Grand Prix final in Qingdao delivered some surprising finals. In the men’s categories U73 and U81 both finallists have never met before. Rustam Orujov will face Soichi Hashimoto. U81kg Goki Maruyama and Wang Ki-Chun will meet in an interesting Asian final. Khasan Khalmurzaev reaches top 10 with gold in Baku

World number 17 Khasan KHALMURZAEV (RUS) won gold to close in on the world’s top-ranked -81kg judoka. KHALMURZAEV was due to take on world number 15 Ushangi MARGIANI (GEO) in the final in what looked set to be an exciting prospect between two emerging judoka who are both 21 years old. However, MARGIANI was ruled out of the final due to sustaining an injury in his semi-final to hand the Russian the gold medal. Read more
