Brazil’s Olympic medallist Felipe Kitadai seals emotional victory
London 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Felipe Kitadai of Brazil achieved a career first as the 29-year old Brazilian ended an IJF competition day with gold for his country. After earning three Grand Slam silver medals, Kitadai, who was ranked a lowly number 33 at the start of the day, brushed aside Paris Grand Slam bronze medallist Temur Nozadze (GEO) by two scores for gold. Spanish lightweights inspired by competition in Baku
At the first day of the Grand Slam in Baku the Spanish team battles for the gold in a surprising category U48kg. Although Julia Figueroa dominates the class for years, new kids on the block have arrived and this time Laura Martinez Abelenda reached the final where she will battle for gold against Figueroa. Abelenda who was always so close to a medal at various age levels, now breaks through the barriers with a victory over Catarina Costa of Portugal. Read more

Robert Mshvidobadze triumphs at a Grand Slam at the 18th attempt
Russian European Champion Robert Mshvidobadze won Grand Slam gold for the first time after beating Brazilian Felipe Kitadai in the U60kg in Abu Dhabi. Zagreb Grand Prix silver medallist Mshvidobadze made his Grand Slam debut in 2010 and has travelled to the IJF’s showcase events all over the world without reaching top spot. Read more

Rio2016 Olympic Judo Preview Men U60kg
The lightest weight division will be in action on 6 August, the opening day of the tournament. The previous edition was won by Arsen Galstyan (RUS) which was quite a surprise, but the competition has become more intense with a new generation of judokas. Brazil announces super team for Olympic Games
The Brazilian Judo Federation has unveiled the team for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Most of the team was known, but some decisions had to be taken in regard to the categories for men U60kg, U100kg and +100kg. In the men’s lightweights Felipe Kitadai was chosen over Eric Takabatake.
