Alesya Kuznetsova won the Universiade in Kazan (Student World Championships) in 2013 U48kg. She won her first Grand Prix in 2013 in Qingdao and collected medals at Grand Prix and Grand Slam level. In 2010 she was European Junior Champion but won medals in all age categories. In 2011 she won silver at the World U20 Championships in Cape Town. She captured a silver medal at the 2017 European Championships in Warsaw U52kg followed by silver at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg and bronze in Madrid.

34-year old Miryam Roper qualifies for the final in Ekaterinburg

The first day of the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg delivered quite some surprises but an equal distribution of the final position among a number of strong judo nations. The Russian athletes showing good results, especially in the women’s categories where they seemed to get more grip to take some of the medals this year. Majlinda Kelmendi not in danger defending her European title

Majlinda Kelmendi won her third European title. Despite a back injury the Kosovarian was too strong for the rest. Surprise was the final for Alesya Kuznetsova. In her new weight category she is able to reach the top of Europe. Her groundwork is amazing but that was about the danger for Kelmendi. 49 seconds for the end Kelmendi struck with ippon in the final. Nothing to do against Kelmendi who won the title in 2014, 2016 and 2017. Ramos was her only dangerous opponent today. Read more

Takato defeats Galstyan in ECCO Team Challenge

Europe has won the challenge against Asia. In the occasion of the ECCO Judo Team Challenge in Tyumen, the team of Europe defeated Asia by 10-4. The first successful shot was by Alesya Kuznetsova who defeated World Champion Munkhbat Urantsetseg. A good start for the European team. However it was World Champion Naohisa Takato who made the equalizer against Olympic Champion Arsen Galstyan. Nakato remained undefeated but is not ready yet to attend the Grand Slam of Paris.
