Lukas Krpalek became Olympic Champion in 2016 in Rio. Krpalek became World Champion in 2019 +100kg and 2014 fighting U100kg and double European Champion in 2013 and 2014 U100kg. He won the European senior title in 2018 in Tel Aviv. He took bronze at the European Championships in Warsaw in 2017. He was double Junior World Champion. Krpalek was 7th at the Olympic Games in London. He captured more than 30 World Cup medals including 13 victories. Coached by Petr Lacina.

Judo team manager and honorary Vice-President of the EJU Otto Kneitinger was awarded for his 50 years in judo at a gala in Germany. The Abensberger was 35 years manager of the most famous club in Germany TSV Abensberg. He was 12 years Vice-President Marketing at the EJU and an influencer at the highest level. Read more

Japanese heavyweight Ogawa Yusei was the unexpected winner of the last final of the Tokyo Grand Slam 2017 as he defeated U100kg Olympic champion Lukas Krpalek (CZE) in a bout for the ages. Their heavyweight duel was literally a thrill-a-minute meeting as both men were devoted to the cause for the four minutes of regulation time and the subsequent and sensational 10 minutes and one second of golden score. Eleven World Ranking leaders in the starting grid for Tokyo Grand Slam

The Grand Slam in Tokyo will be looking forward to a clash between Olympic Champion Shohei Ono and World Champion Soichi Hashimoto in their category U73kg. Both stylists will likely only meet in the ideal final. The Grand Slam will host 61 nations including 417 athletes. Only the editions in 2014 and 2015 had more judoka. Teddy Riner unseeded at the World Championships in Budapest

Teddy Riner is not seeded at the World Championships in Budapest. Riner lost 50% of the Olympic points after a reduction last weekend. Same counts for Olympic runner-up Hisayoshi Harasawa who is now ranked tenth and only the first nine are seeded as Russian Andrey Volkov won't compete. Japanese Ojitani is the last seeded. The 14th place is Riner's lowest position ever. Read more
