Italian judoka Matteo Marconcini became World Championships silver medallist in 2017 in Budapest. He was one of the sensations at the Olympic Games in Rio. He won the European Open in Prague in 2016 U81kg and bronze in Casablanca. He came back from a shoulder injury in 2015. In 2014 he won European Cups in Sindelfingen and Celje in 2012. Italian champion in 2010 and 2012. He won bronze at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2016. He took a silver medal at the European Cup in Malaga at his comeback in 2018

Khasan Khalmurzaev snatches the gold with second Russian miracle

It looks like a dejavu and perhaps it is, because Russia won its second gold medal this tournament. Khasan Khalmurzaev didn’t have to fight Tchrikishvili or Nagase, but did have a tough list of rivals to overcome, but took the gold medal when he needed it. Surprises in final phase Judo men U81kg

A surprising tournament for the men’s U81kg category, as expected as the competition is awesome with so many judo stars around. Still most of the usual suspects came up in the quarter finals. We lost some casualties in the prerounds such as Moustopoulos, Bottieau, Lee, De Wit, Pietri and Otgonbaatar and Penalber. Nonetheless Tchrikishvili and Nagase were still lined up for their road to the final with Khalmurzaev surviving keen in the slipstream. Read more
