Tina Trstenjak of Slovenia won the Olympic title in Rio 2016. Tina won the World title in 2015 in Astana and World bronze in 2014 and 2018. In 2017 she won silver in Budapest. She is 2016 and 2017 European Judo champion and won silver at the European Games in 2015 and six European medals. Trstenjak won the Grand Slams in Paris and Abu Dhabi. GP gold in Düsseldorf, Tunis and Zagreb and more than 35 World Cup medals. She took gold at the Grand Slam in Budapest in 2020.

Thirty of the medallists at the Grand Slam of Paris in 2012 reached the top 8 at the London Olympic Games. Of the 30 athletes, 18 won a medal. As only athlete Teddy Riner won both Paris in 2012 as the Olympic title. The podium U78kg in Paris gave the best indication for London where Aguiar, Harrison and Tcheumeo were also on the podium, accompanied by British surprise Gemma Gibbons. Read more

The IJF World Tour 2015 is over, time for the awards of the best players, but also time to analyse the current virtual medal table in judo. With the Asian Tour just behind us and the surprising World Championships of Astana, more and more is clear. One thing is for sure: Japan is back. Where in 2012 just one title was captured, now they are in a great shape. Although in 2011 (the previous Olympic cycle) a comparable number of gold medals was achieved by Japan in the World Tour (47 against 53 in 2015). Even at the World Championships in 2011 Japan took 5 gold medals to 6 in 2015. Read more

In the IJF ranking Georgii Zantaraia is back at his number one position U66kg. He replaces Davaadorj Tumurkhuleg who was number one after Paris.
