Automne Pavia is 2012 Olympic Games bronze medallist and bronze at the 2014 and 2015 World Championships. The French judoka won three European titles in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Pavia won 5 European medals in a row 2012-2016. Pavia won silver at the Grand Prix in Samsun. She won the European Cup in Dubrovnik in 2018. Since 2017 she is mother of a daughter.

As expected the French were amazing in France, still the top athletes were a bit sloppy in their finishing touch. No big issue as Audrey Tcheumeo is for sure among the seeded players for Rio 2016. Maybe it’s good to make a mistake in Samsun, to keep her sharp. Samsun winner Madeleine Malonga gained more points and is stable at 12. Despite her bronze medal Mami Umeki is selected for the Olympic Games U78kg, she is ranked 8th as best Japanese. Read more

Turkey celebrated a golden party, guaranteed gold is a luxury that the host nation does not have at many occasions. The final U60kg was an all Turkish final. Only in four previous events Turkey enjoyed two fighters in an international final. Two of those U60kg between the current finallists Bekir Ozlu and Ahmet Sahin Kaba who took the lead halfway the match after he proved to be stronger in the transition to ne-waza and scored a waz-ari. When the heat is on, you simple expect certain athletes to shine. Some athletes have the ability to perform when they need it. Some of the best Olympic athletes can take a break of 2 years and comeback with the previous strength but with a load of experience to qualify in time. You cannot say Automne Pavia hasn’t enjoyed life in this Olympic cycle. Despite some injuries, she won two European titles, European and World team title with France, three Grand Prixs and she got engaged, accepted attractive sponsor contracts and today she is again in a final. 398 athletes from 68 nations kick-off for the Grand Prix in Samsun on Friday. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking. Brazil’s first female world judo champion Rafaela Silva is back to her best after pitching a 100% record at the Tbilisi Grand Prix. The 23-year-old Silva won all four of her contests by ippon and saved her best score for the final as she caught Havana Grand Prix bronze medallist Nora Gjakova of Kosovo by surprise with a flying juji-gatame with 90 seconds left for gold. Brazil’s Rio 2016 hope, beat Olympic and world champion Matsumoto Kaori (JPN) with the same technique at the Tokyo Grand Slam in December. Read more
