Hedvig Karakas is one of the finest Hungarian judoka who won bronze at the Grand Slam Tokyo in 2015. As World Junior Champion, Karakas won bronze at the 2009 World Championships and was fifth at the 2012 Olympic Games, 7th in Rio and 7th at the 2015 Worlds. European Games silver in 2015. She claimed the gold medal at the Grand Prix in Tashkent in 2019. In 2018 she took a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Düsseldorf and bronze at the Grand Slam in Baku in 2019.

Kaori Matsumoto is still in the race to be the first to prolong her Olympic title in 2016. The Japanese had to give everything what she had in a thrilling quarter final against French Automne Pavia. A match with more than 3 minutes in the golden score where it was Matsumoto who gave her last breath to a wazari score and won the match afterall, despite all the danger from the tall Pavia. Pavia was against sent to the repechage, just like in 2012 when the two fought as well, then in the semi final.
