Judoka Nihel Cheikh Rouhou of Tunisia is ranked top 10 and Former World Police Champion. She won countless African titles and major titles such as Grand Prix Budapest in 2015. Coached by 2001 World Champion Anis Lounifi. She won the All African Games in 2007, 2011 and 2015. Current African champion. She finished 7th at the Rio Olympic Games. She claimed almost 20 World Cup medals including three victories. Cheikh Rouhou took gold at the African Games in Rabat in 2019.

Tokyo Grand Slam winner Inamori Nami of Japan maintained the Japanese women’s perfect record in Tyumen as they claimed all seven female gold medals. Baku Grand Slam bronze medallist Nihel Cheikh Rouhou of Tunisia fell behind to a waza-ari after 28 seconds and cut the deficit with a yuko but the result was never in doubt and Inamori held firm. Yamabe Kanae charges confidence in Baku

Japanese Olympian Yamabe Kanae won +78kg glory at the Grand Slam in Baku as she topped the field in the heaviest women’s category on Sunday. Yamabe was due to contest an all-Asian final against world champion Yu Song (CHN) which would have been a fascinating duel but the Chinese fighter picked up a back injury in her semi-final and could not take her place in the final. World bronze medallist Yamabe, 25, who won the All Japan Championships in April to officially earn her selection for Rio 2016, is now a two-time Grand Slam gold medallist after achieving the same result in Paris in 2014. After one day of judo at the African Championships Tunisia rewarded the fans with an efficient three gold medals of a total of 8 medals. More medals on the first day compared to last year, but one gold less. Most of the weight categories had the dream final with the biggest rivals. Read more

Athletes from 31 nations will fight for the essential Qualification Points to participate at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The African Championships in Tunis are more important than ever and in the 14 weight classes each point can help the athletes to Rio. Last year at the African Championships the current host Tunisia was amazingly strong picking 50% of all 16 available medals including Open category. Eight titles for the current host nation rises the expectations. Tunisia and Algeria ended equal in the men’s division but in the women Tunisia won with 5 gold medals. Read more

French women work on World Ranking positions in Samsun

As expected the French were amazing in France, still the top athletes were a bit sloppy in their finishing touch. No big issue as Audrey Tcheumeo is for sure among the seeded players for Rio 2016. Maybe it’s good to make a mistake in Samsun, to keep her sharp. Samsun winner Madeleine Malonga gained more points and is stable at 12. Despite her bronze medal Mami Umeki is selected for the Olympic Games U78kg, she is ranked 8th as best Japanese. Read more
