Hovhannes Davtyan won the IJF Grand Slam Moscow in 2009 as his first big prize and Grand prix in Zagreb followed 6 years later. He won three European medals starting in 2007 with silver in Belgrade and in 2012 in Chelyabinsk. He took bronze in Montpellier in 2014 U60kg and bronze in Havana in 2016. Three times he participated in the Olympics. Davtyan was born in Gyumri, grew up in Gyumri and lives in Gyumri where an earthquake destroyed the whole city. It was hard time, lots of collapsed houses, destroyed gyms. Hovhannes became headcoach of the Armenian team.
