The gold for women U70kg was for Haruka Tachimoto, where she failed in 2012 in London, she came back strongly this time. What a turbulent Olympic cycle it has been for Tachimoto who could in fact almost forget qualification in February 2015 due to an incident, but came back slowly and won everything what she had to win to qualify. The sensation so far on the day is Chinese judoka Cheng Xunzhao who defeated three huge medal candidates. Starting with triple World Champion and double Olympic medallist Ilias Iliadis. Of course a big team from Turkey with 52 athletes will compete and the eyecatchers are the women fighting at Day 1 U48kg where Dilara Lokmanhekim and Ebru Sahin will fight for the top positions. Both are potential Olympic participants for Turkey, but only one can go. They are ranked closely, Lokmanheim at 13, Sahin at 14 in the latest Olympic Ranking.
