Dutch powerman Henk Grol won two Olympic bronze medals, in 2008 in Beijing and London 2012. Grol was three times finallist of the World Championships and won the European title in 2008, in 2015 in 2016 and 8 medals. He was always coached by Maarten Arens. He is sponsored by Matrix. He won the Grand Slam in Paris in 2011 and 2020. Henk captured gold at the Grand Slam in Osaka in 2018. Henk Grol (NED) was number 1 of the IJF World Ranking for seniors U100kg in 2012 and 2013.

Big movers in IJF World Ranking after the European Games

The new IJF Ranking delivered two new World leaders. In the new ranking the points were included of the European Games and Pan American Open in El Salvador. This week’s point were decreased to 50% of the points of European Championships in 2014 in Montpellier and to 0% of the event in 2013 as well as Panam Open last year. Read more

Dutch Henk Grol was extremely happy with his European title. Since 2008 he didn’t have the pleasure of taking a gold medal at a major championship. Since then he suffered many injuries, uncountable even and also uncountable are the rule changes in the world of judo. Dutchman Henk Grol won his second ever European title in his career. What a tremendous success for the Dutch team. Lukas Krpalek could prolong his third European title and is the leader of the world U100kg. But it was Grol who found the way to defeat the tall Czech. European Games show great judo matches U90kg

The third day of the European Games did gave the spectacular judo we were hoping for. The men’s U90kg category delivered fine judo with world class actors. In the end Varlam Liparteliani (GEO) and Kirill Denisov (RUS) were qualified for the finals. That’s a repetition of the 2013 European final. Read more

Six out of seven judoka in the latest Judo World Ranking are Europeans and most of them are in Baku for the European Games. Obviously World Ranking leader, World and European Champion from the Czech Republic Lukas Krpalek landed with his team in the Azerbaijan capital. Last year he won both titles and this special event is high on his list. Whether he is completely fit is the question but the newly married Krpalek should be fresh is his mind. Read more
