Grol was three times finallist of the World Championships and won the European title in 2008, in 2015 in 2016 and 8 medals. He was always coached by Maarten Arens. He is sponsored by Matrix. He took a silver medal at the Grand Slam in Ekaterinburg in 2018. He captured gold at the Grand Slam in Osaka in 2018.
