Dutch judoka Anicka van Emden won Olympic bronze in 2016 U63kg. She won 13 Grand Slam medals. Van Emden won two bronze medals at World Championships in 2011 and 2013 (also in Rio). She claimed two European medals and was 2008 European U23 Champion. In the top IJF top 10 since 2009-2016. Coached by Chris de Korte (past) and Mark van der Ham. She retired after the Olympic Games.

Takato defeats Galstyan in ECCO Team Challenge

Europe has won the challenge against Asia. In the occasion of the ECCO Judo Team Challenge in Tyumen, the team of Europe defeated Asia by 10-4. The first successful shot was by Alesya Kuznetsova who defeated World Champion Munkhbat Urantsetseg. A good start for the European team. However it was World Champion Naohisa Takato who made the equalizer against Olympic Champion Arsen Galstyan. Nakato remained undefeated but is not ready yet to attend the Grand Slam of Paris. Unterwurzacher surprises Agbegnenou in U63kg final

The final for women U63kg in Abu Dhabi confronted Clarisse Agbegnenou (FRA) and Kathrin Unterwurzacher (AUT). The French being with no doubt stronger than her opponent, the title seemed to be her property even before the final started, but Unterwurzacher took her chance and superbly won with yuko obtained on a yoko-sutemi-waza. Not enough precision in her trapping, Agbegnenou could not score and finished at the second place. Read more
