In the latest World Ranking for female Juniors, Brazil has two leaders. After the World Championships in Abu Dhabi Brazil have two judoka leaders. Hungarian Szabina Gercsák took over the World Ranking of Sanne van Dijke (NED) after capturing the world title last Sunday. Read more

Nine of the 16 World Ranking leaders kept their leading position after the World Junior Championships. Eleven from Europe, four from Brazil and one from Asia, Kazachstan in fact. Despite the fabulous World Championships of Japan none of the youngster became World ranking leader, mainly because usually they don’t appear at Continental Cups where points can be achieved. Tamerlan Bashaev and Ilyaz Niyasov both saved the reputation of Russian judo. The Russian weren't that lucky this tournament and had only won a silver medal in the women's category. Where the Russian juniors where so dominant in the past, now only the heavyweight men's category captured two gold medals in one day, saved by the bell to have at least one new champion in the team like in the last four editions of the World Junior Championships. Croatian Brigita Matic is the second in the family to capture the World Junior title. In Abu Dhabi she stepped into the light of her sister Barbara with another great milestone in her career. Brigita Matic won the Youth Olympics in 2014. She won World Cadet and Junior bronze as well as with the Croatian team, in 2013 and gold in 2015. Matic won the European Cadet title in 2012 and EYOF in 2011 and silver in 2013. European Junior bronze in 2012 and 2015. Read more
