Japanese prodigy Akira Sone became the youngest women’s heavyweight world champion of all time as she won the +78kg crown with a narrow victory over the legendary Idalys Ortiz (CUB). Sone, 19, who was the 2015 Cadet world champion and 2017 Junior world champion, completed her Worlds set by beating her rival Ortiz for the second time with their head-to-series even at 1-1 before the final. Malonga seals France’s third gold medal in as many days

Madeleine Malonga is the new World Champion U78kg. In the Budokan in Tokyo the French woman defeated defending world champion Hamada Shori of Japan who conceded her world crown to Malonga. The French team now captured three gold medal. Malonga followed the success of her teammates Clarisse Agbegnenou (U63kg) and Marie Eve Gahie (U70kg) who won gold on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Read more

Dutchman Noel van ‘t End won his first world title after a gruelling day which culminated with a narrow triumph over Osaka Grand Slam winner Mukai Shoichiro of Japan in his sixth contest of the day. World number 10 Van ‘t End, who lost to Mukai in the Osaka Grand Slam final last year, lit up the U90kg category all day long and recorded the biggest win of his career with a mesmerising o-soto ko-soto combination for a waza-ari score with 27 seconds left. Marie Eve Gahie crowned World Champion in the Budokan
