Judo in Mexico is popular because of heavyweight Vanessa Zambotti. Zambotti and lightweight Edna Carrillo are successful international Mexican judoka and competed at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. Zambotti competes since Athens 2004 and won Pan American Championships and Games titles. In 2016 the IJF World Masters were held in Guadalajara and in 1969 the World Championships in Mexico City. In 2016 the IJF Training Centre was opened in Mexico bij IJF President Marius Vizer.
