Judo in Bulgaria in on the way back with good results by young judoka Denislav Ivanov who won the world title in 2015 and European junior title in 2017. There is new talent with Anastasiia Balaban and Lidia Brancheva. Best judoka of Bulgaria is Ivaylo Ivanov who finished 7th at the Olympic Games in Rio and three medals at European Championships. Yanislav Gerchev took a 7th place at the 2021 World Championships. Georgi Georgiev won Olympic bronze in 2004. Dimitar Zapryanov and Ilyan Nedkov won Olympic medals in Moscow 1980. Georghi Petrov was a good judoka in the eighties winning World medals. The biggest event is the 2022 European Championships in Sofia.
