This week it’s time for the Grand Slam in Baku, in an unusual time of the year as last November Azerbaijan hosted the Grand Slam as well. U48kg everything is possible. Seventh in Paris recently, Milica Nikolic from Serbia, currently ranked fifth in the world, is eager to step onto the podium this time. Despite falling short last year, she hopes to kickstart the medal tally for 2024. Behind her, the competition remains open, setting the stage for unpredictable outcomes.

In the U60kg category, Luka Mkheidze from France, fresh off his impressive victory in Paris, seems to be in prime form. Despite being 28 years old and ranked fifth globally, he's chosen to compete in Azerbaijan to gain more experience and face new challenges. With strong contenders from Brazil, the Netherlands, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Azerbaijan, Mkheidze's journey promises intriguing matchups.

Moving to the U52kg division, Diyora Keldiyorova from Uzbekistan started the season with a resounding victory in Portugal. Skipping Paris, she's back on the scene, likely aiming to make a significant impact on the world circuit. Keep an eye on Odette Giuffrida from Italy as well, a seasoned veteran with two Olympic medals and a strong desire to climb the podium again in Paris.

In the U66kg category, the top-seeded Yashar Najafov from Azerbaijan, currently ranked sixth globally, will have the home advantage. However, this could either work in his favor or add pressure to his performance. With competitors vying for points and recognition, expect surprises and potentially some confirmations in this unpredictable category.

The U57kg division promises to be the most exciting, featuring a lineup of champions and formidable personalities. World number one Christa Deguchi from Canada leads the pack, although her recent upset in Paris by the young Frenchwoman Faiza Mokdar indicates she's beatable. French contender Sarah Leonie Cysique has her sights set on challenging Deguchi, with both eyeing the ultimate prize at the upcoming Games. Keep an eye on other strong contenders like Nora Gjakova from Kosovo, Eteri Liparteliani from Georgia, Timna Nelson Levy from Israel, and the Ukrainian powerhouse Daria Bilodid. With such a stacked lineup, expect intense and thrilling matches in the U57kg category.
