Takato vs Smetov the clash in the semi final U60kg

Taipeh judoka Yang Yung Wei is not a surprise anymore. Taipeh can win its first ever medal at the Olympic Games in judo. Yang reached the semi final U60kg by surprising Yanislav Gerchev in a tough battle and overcame Dutchman Tornike Tsjakadoea by a hold down in the quarter final. Tsjakadoea had the first sensation by winning against number one seed Robert Mshvidobadze.

Yang will now face Luka Mkheidze who stunned Francisco Garrigos of Spain in the second round. He defeated  Artem Lesiuk (UKR) in the quarter final.

Naohisa Takato was the expected athlete in the semi final. Takato bested Jorre Verstraeten of Belgium and 2019 World Champion Lukhumi Chkhvimiani. The Georgian was close to a score but Takato struck in the golden score in the end. Chkhvimiani will face Kim Won Jin of Korea in the repechage match. Kim lost to Yeldos Smetos who also gave a solid impression against Akkus and Kim.

Tsjakadoea will battle with Lesiuk for a spot in the first medal bout U60kg.
