Sensational victory for Emmanuel Nartey at African Open Casablanca

Emmanuel Nartey of Ghana stunted to a gold medal today at the African Open in Casablanca. His last World Cup victory dates from November 2013. Today in Casablanca he won all of his five contests. In his last match he defeated Spanish Javier Ramirez in the final U73kg.
Nartey was the only gold medallist from Africa in a tough field where many athletes need the points for Olympic qualification. Nartey himself is 52 but that may be enough to qualify via the continental quota. After this weekend Nartey will rise in the World Ranking and his good shape will also help him to capture more points at the African Championships from 7-10 April in Tunis. This year Nartey finished seventh at the Grand Prix in Havana which is an excellent result in such competitive championship.
In 2012 Nartey competed at the Olympic Games in London and he competes at senior World Championships since 2005. Nartey, now 32 years old, never won the African title and seems one of the favourites in this class U73kg in April.
