Nemanja Majdov became World Champion U90kg in Budapest in 2017. Coming from a true judo family he judo for Bosnia and Herzegovina, but since 2013 for Serbia. He is a dedicated sportsman, who won the European Junior title in 2014 in Bucharest and in 2016 in Malaga. Majdov won EC Cadet silver in 2013. He is younger brother of Stefan Majdov. He took bronze at the Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi in 2016 U90kg. He took a bronze medal at the Grand Prix in Cancun in 2017, but his world title was a great stunt.

European Open Belgrade full of opportunities to celebrate more Serbian success

The forthcoming European Open in Belgrade will be a highlight this year to celebrate the successes of Serbian judo. Serbian judo is geared up and to illustrate that it will be the first time in the history that Belgrade will host a European Open, whereas the previous editions since 2011 had a European Cup status. Is the Serbian domination U90kg unique?

European Champion Aleksandar Kukolj is still the world number one of the world ranking. His compatriot Nemanja Majdov took the world title and ranked number two. The current Serbian domination is unique for this relatively modest judo country, but now all is possible. When small judo federation Israel last year won two Olympic medals, the sport got a tremendous boost and Israel organizes the next European Championships. Nemanja Majdov surprises the world with first Serbian world title

Serbia started the day with their greatest opportunity to realise their dream of crowning a world judo champion but instead of world number one Aleksandar Kukolj it was a 21-year-old Worlds debutant who ruled the sport. World number 23 and double Junior European Champion Nemanja Majdov was the first shock finalist in the U90kg category and was then joined by world number 14 Mihael Zgank (SLO). Read more
