Mayra Aguiar of Brazil became World Champion in 2017 in Budapest and in 2014 in Chelyabinsk U78kg. She won five World Championships medals and Aguiar won Olympic Games bronze in Rio in 2016 and London 2012. She took the World Junior Championships U20 in 2010 in Agadir. She won bronze at the World Championships in 2011 in Paris. In 2016 Aguiar won the Grand Slam in Paris. At her comeback in 2017 she won the Grand Prix in Cancun in 2017 as warmup for her second world title.

Eight new World Ranking leaders set Japan back to the top

On Monday the new IJF World Ranking was released with eight new world ranking leaders. Soichi Hashimoto (U73kg) and Sumiya Dorjsuren (U57kg) were number one last week and also won the world title. It’s not about the ranking but about the performance. Mayra Aguiar becomes double world champion

The U78kg world title returned to Brazil as Mayra Aguiar topped the World Championships medal podium for the second time. Aguiar, who won the Worlds in 2014 in Chelyabinsk, had power, precision and poise and should not control the category on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which would be her third Games. Read more

Double Olympic bronze medallist Mayra Aguiar of Brazil made a winning return to action as she defeated double European bronze medallist Natalie Powell of Great Britain to win U78kg gold. Former world champion Aguiar was making her first appearance on the IJF World Judo Tour since her home Olympics but it did not show as she caught Welsh judoka Powell with a textbook sasae-tsurikomi-ashi for ippon. The Olympic effect on most popular judoka on instagram

The Olympic Games always have a huge effect on the social media of the athletes. Most accounts are increasing but some are really exploding where there’s obviously a connection between the results. Paula Pareto had a more than average account with 16,000 followers, but exploded after her Olympic title to 109,000 followers. Teddy Riner was the biggest active judoka on twitter with over 120,000 followers but now gained another 25,000. Almost 80 percent of all Olympic medallist have an instagram account. Read more
