Dutch judoka Anicka van Emden won Olympic bronze in 2016 U63kg. She won 13 Grand Slam medals. Van Emden won two bronze medals at World Championships in 2011 and 2013 (also in Rio). She claimed two European medals and was 2008 European U23 Champion. In the top IJF top 10 since 2009-2016. Coached by Chris de Korte (past) and Mark van der Ham. She retired after the Olympic Games.

Dutch Olympic medallist Anicka van Emden retires as top athlete. Van Emden won World bronze in 2011 and 2013 and highlighted her career in Rio with Olympic bronze. In 2011 she won European silver followed by bronze in 2014 and 2016 and she claimed 13 Grand Slam medals. Read more

This category U63kg is one of the most rivalled division and knows a broad list of challengers of these two. It was Tina Trstenjak who stayed cool as ever. She is as cool as Ono, as efficient as Riner and as laid-back as 2012 Olympic Champion Urska Zolnir. Trstenjak took over her legacy for a bright future of Slovenian judo. It was the only category of the 14 where none of the judoka had won an Olympic medal before. Read more

Record participation for Dutch Olympic judo team

The Dutch team will send a record of eleven athletes to the Olympic Games. In 2012 the Dutch sent 10 athletes to London. Henk Grol is the only athlete with medals in his pocket. The double European champion in this Olympic cycle won bronze in 2008 and 2012. Marhinde Verkerk was previously nominated instead of Guusje Steenhuis. Verkerk finished fifth in 2012. Read more
