Judo in Moldova

Judo in Moldova has a good history with World Championships medals for Victor Bivol, Victor Florescu and Sergiu Toma. In 2013 most of the senior men’s team switched to the United Arab Emirates Judo Federation. Sergiu Toma won Olympic bronze for VAE in 2013 but his heart is in Moldova. Also Ivan Remarenco and Victor Scvortov are successful judoka from Moldova. The Moldova Judo Association has good youth teams with Denis Vieru, Mihail Doncila and Cristina Budescu as strong judoka. Moldova celebrated its first world champion ever as Eugen Matveiciuc captured the cadet world title in 2017.
