Judo in Kazakhstan

Judo in Kazakhstan celebrated a two Olympic judo medals by Yeldos Smetov who won silver and Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh who took bronze. In 2008 Askhat Zhitkeyev was the first Kazakh Olympic judo medallist. Judo Lightweight Yeldos Smetov became World Champion in 2015 in Astana in the final against Kazakh judoka Rustam Ibrayev. Maxim Rakov was World Champion in 2009 in Rotterdam. Otgontsetseg Galbadrakh and Asian Champion Marian Urdabayeva are the big female judoka. The Kazach Judo Federation organised the World Championships in 2015 in Astana and in 2012 the IJF World Masters were held in Almaty. Each year the IJF Grand Prix is held in Astana or Almaty.
